Great post. Interesting read. I read something similar yesterday but for the life of me I can't remember what the site was though. It'll come to me - it must be old age :)

The memorabilia is a surprise, never expected to find something that puts such a personal touch to how rocket launches are usually remembered. My wife and I saw STS-1 and I remember the scrub 2 days earlier due to a Shuttle computer glitch. It must have been exciting growing up hearing about the space race from your Grandfather. I look forward to seeing some of you memorabilia as you post it. I am sure the Space Tweep Society gang would love to see it too. See you at #nasatweetup soon!
